The decision was to create a space that was functional, optimized and friendly.
For this, I relied on strong elements: a claustra and a glass roof which delimit the space without partitioning it too much in order to clearly define its different functions. The claustra creates an entrance while giving a taste of the living room. The glass roof demarcates the kitchen from the living room (and rests against the moldings and the formwork) while bringing light to the room. The glass roof mirrors the design of the existing glass roof, the identity of the apartment.
I wanted to bring some equipment to the apartment to improve daily life, such as reversible air conditioning, an equipped kitchen, additional and ambient lighting, comfortable and friendly furniture, a wall-mounted TV with adjustable arm, as well as storage space.
I also wanted to highlight the characteristics of this Haussmann-style apartment by highlighting the bases and moldings, the herringbone parquet flooring and highlighting the ceiling height. I wanted to mix these elements with a contemporary style, in particular through the glass roof and the claustra but also through a refined and minimalist kitchen, a bench on the dining room side and a daybed on the living room side.
For the materials I mainly used oak, reminiscent of herringbone parquet, and in order to bring warmth to the space; glass and metal to contrast; and marble to nod to the style of the apartment and also contrast with the wood (warm/cold materials). Finally, to soften the whole and for comfort, the seats are in fabric and leather.
For the colors, I went with a rather colorful palette to give character and a strong identity to the room. Still in this spirit of contrast, I used a rather cold celadon blue, which is warmed by rust, and illuminated by ocher. As a base I kept the original white and black.
