Cinema, in its way of representing and telling the world and life, often draws on major mythological themes, and, more or less explicitly, it brings back the spirit of the legend. Brittany is therefore a real source of inspiration and creativity for cinema through its diverse landscapes but also through its aura, its history, its myths and legends.
Our project is to promote in their interaction cinema and a particular type of heritage that is too often neglected: legendary heritage. The countless Breton imaginary beings are the folklorized descendants of the spirits of nature. This conception implies that each part of the universe is inhabited by an invisible force which animates it. They belong to the world beyond, that is to say beyond the visible, they share the same places but in reversed time. These fantastic beings need humans to survive and regenerate. The opposite is just as true: men need those beings who know how to be indispensable and realize their secret desires. One of the main functions of these beings is to explain the inexplicable in a world full of real or imaginary perils. Finally, they remind us that Man is not the master of the world and that nature has difficulty supporting his insatiability. Respect for the Other? Ecological behavior before its time?
At a time when we talk a lot about “re-enchanting the world”, about (re)giving it meaning, cinema has perhaps come at the right time to make its contribution. Is it not in fact in its deep nature to combine dream and reality, observation and message, play of appearances and process of introspection? In any case, this seems to be the concern of a certain number of filmmakers today, who - consciously or unconsciously - are reconnecting with the secret path of a certain spiritual or at least mythical and symbolic sensitivity, and who are linked by right there in the great legendary depths of humanity.
Just like candlelight vigils in the past, cinema today represents the ideal support for legendary stories, projecting, into the darkness of the room, the dreams, the desires, the impulses which guide and shape our intimate and social life.
